Exterminate! Exterminate!

My girlfriend Brooke’s 9-year-old recently got into Doctor Who, and he built this wonderful likeness of a Dalek out of Legos. Pretty neat!
UPDATE: Since this post, Rowan has done more Doctor Who/Lego stuff. Check it out here.

Fantastic! I actually like that it looks a bit like a cross between a Dalek and the robot from The Forbidden Planet.

I just bumped into this and HAD to make one for my desk. Cheers Brooke!
Now back to pondering whether or not I like the coice of the next doctor.

This is the sort of thing that makes me sad about Lego.
When I was 9 I had a fantastic lego set of a car, about 18 inches long, with working gears and steering. I made a whole town from imagination and then made a (admittedly) crappy animated film about the people who lived there. Even complex pre-built sets were 7+. Now there are less parts, more figures, idiot proof instructions and now we have reached the point where I am supposed to be impressed by a character made from 11 pieces?
Depressing stumble
Especially as I had to sell much of my good stuff to pay for university, so my future kids won’t get to tax their brains - instead they will be clicking a two-piece Bionicle figure together… it’s gonna take more than that to earn my love!

It’s brilliant

Jeez, Pete. Who spat in your socks? A 9 year-old made this neat little thing for fun. Since then he’s made a Tardis as well! Not Bionicle. No instructions. No mini-figs.
Never fails, I guess. No matter what something is, there’s someone on the internet who wants to be a jerk about it.
Everyone else, thanks for the kind words. I’ve passed them on to Brooke and Rowan.

This is awesome. I actually am quite much into ‘minimalist’ Lego building. Use as few as possible standard Lego pieces to build a likeness of what ever you are visualizing. As easy as it sounds, it is not…Good job Rowan!

Sorry - I didn’t mean to come across so harshly.
Apologies to Rowan as well.
I’m lamenting that the golden age of Lego has passed.
*Sheepishly goes off to lurk back on the internet hopefully not offending anybody*

[...] A little while back, my girlfriend’s 9-year-old made a really neat lego Dalek. Since then, he’s created a second, alternate one plus the TARDIS and the Doctor himself. Take a look after the jump. [...]
