David Cronenberg is writing a novel!

Canadian director David Cronenberg is swapping his camera for a pen.
The moviemaker, who was attending the Rome Film Festival on Thursday, said he has written 60 pages of a novel, but besides ruling out that it would be a horror or science fiction, offered few details on the project.
I love Cronenberg’s work and can’t wait to read this. Actually, I find it interesting that Cronenberg has waited this long to do this. His two major, avowed influences have been Nabokov and Philip K. Dick (No wonder I love his cinema.) and has said he’s been more influenced by them and other novelists than any filmmaker.

The NY Times rather neatly explains the appeal of Dario Argento:
Making fun of this sort of ripe, over-the-top horror isn’t difficult: it’s impaling fish in a barrel. What’s tougher to account for in Mr. Argento’s work is the often extraordinary grace of his filmmaking, which shows itself in the long, tense intervals between outbursts of stomach-turning gore. He’s both a sensationalist and a sensualist, and the line that separates Argento the showman from Argento the artist is razor thin.
It’s the thinness of that line that I love so much. Read on.

“The last time [Ridley and I] saw each other we talked about it. The character is still interesting [and] I’d love to work with Ridley again,†Weaver said, raising our hopes to their absolute apex before immediately dashing them against the rocks of reality. “But Fox has effectively killed it because of ‘Alien vs. Predator.’ What else can you do with the creature? You can take the situation, you can go back to where they came from.
“To play someone who ages a couple hundred years was fascinating,†she added. “[But] let [Ripley] rest.â€
See that Fox? You see? You could have had Sigourney Weaver and Ridley Scott. Instead you got Sanaa Lathan and Paul W.S. Anderson. Shame, Fox. May life be short else shame be too long. I hate you.
Probably just as well, actually. LINK!

This is a pretty solid list, until number one… I’m sorry, it’s a fine film, but I think it’s a stretch to call Ghostbusters horror.

Exactly what it sounds like. My personal favorite: Tyler Perry’s They Live. Well, Perry’s made nothing but horror movies so far.
